I came across this picture the other day and I realized that I never thought of cats as having distinct breeds. So, to educate myself, I went to the Cat Franciers' Association website. The CFA is the world's largest cat registry. The organization recognizes 42 breeds of cats and holds nationwide cat shows.
The CFA website also has detailed breed profiles for every cat type in the registry. Below are pictures of the top five breeds in the country
